Brazil won their fifth World Cup with a 2-0 win over Germany due to two second half goals by Ronaldo, which took his tally to eight goals and gave him the Golden boot. It also placed him level with Pele, with 12 goals, as Brazil's top scorer in the World Cup.
England lost to Brazil 2-1. England openend the scoring through Michael Owen in the 23rd minute, but on the stroke of half time Rivaldo levelled the score. In the second half Brazil took the lead through a long free kick by Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho was sent off on the hour mark, although the red card appeared harsh. However England were very poor playing against ten men creating no real chances.
Spain beat Ireland 3-2 on penalties to progress to the quarter-finals. Morientes had put Spain ahead in the first half, but Ireland stormed back in the second half. Ian Harte missed a penalty, before Ireland gained another penalty just before the end of full time, which was converted by Robbie Keane. In extra time Ireland surged forward but were unable to find a golden goal.England into the Quarter-finals
England convincingly beat Denmark with three first half goals from Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen and Emilie Heskey. It equalled England's largest victory in a World Cup Match.
