The Open courses

The Open or the British Open is the most prestigious and venerable golf tournament in the world. The Open was first played at Prestwik, Ayrshire, in 1860, and has been played in every decade since. Today the tournament is contested annually by the world's top golfers at one of the courses (featured below) in Britain on the Open rota.

St Andrews (The Old Course)

Location: St Andrews, Fife

Course Length: 6,978 yards. Par 72. Course opened 1400.

Opens staged: 26, between 1873 and 2000.
